Everybody has a body! I’ve been through quite the journey with mine, and still struggle with body acceptance. A few months ago, when I followed the advice I’d heard on a podcast to “delete all social media accounts that make you feel less than because of your body,” I deleted so many accounts (literally thousands) that Instagram thought I was a bot and it blocked me from signing on for four days. I make it a point now to surround myself ONLY with body positive messaging - whether it’s through what I watch, read, or scroll. Check out the below for some of my favorites!
MY FAVE SHOWS WITH BODY POSITIVE LEADS
Survival of the Thickest has been renewed for season 2!!! LOVE this show created by and starring Michelle Buteau, whose outfits, btw, are FABULOUS AF! (Oh, and recurring guest star Garcelle Beauvais plays a deliciously self-absorbed former model, for all you Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans 💎).
Shrill is another show starring a lead (Aidy Bryant) who, as the synopsis says, “is determined to change her life without changing her body.” It ran for three seasons and introduced me to Samantha Irby, who wrote the well-known episode, Pool (detailed in my FAVORITE of her books, We Are Never Meeting in Real Life), and writes for And Just Like That. Shout-out to my bf for always letting me read him passages from whatever book of hers I’m into lately because she’s JUST. SO. FUNNY.
SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS THAT I LOVE
Hands down, my favorite body positive Instagram account is Katie Sturino (@katiesturino), whose made a name for herself with the hashtag #SuperSizeMyLook, where she recreates outfits worn by celebrities to show that one outfit can be worn by people of all different sizes, and looks just as fab on every BODY!
Another favorite on Insta is Megan Crabbe (@meganjaynecrabbe), who posts THE MOST empowering pictures and messages about body positivity that’ll make you think. Love the line in her bio: “We don’t make ourselves smaller here.” ‘Nuff said!
I’ve gotten so many cute ideas from Erica Suckow’s (@hiericasuckow) TikTok account, like the cute outfit below! She’s all about embracing her body shape, has adorable taste, and always shops at an affordable price point. How can ya go wrong!?
Another TikToker who’s in the midsize fashion sphere and shares tons of outfit inspo is Megan Cangemi (@megcangemi). LOVE her cool, caszh vibe!

Taryn Truly (@taryntruly.unfiltered) is one of those women whose TikTok accounts I can look at for HOURS because she makes EVERY OUTFIT look so elevated! I mean, look at the pic below…it’s literally a sweatsuit, but she adds the perfect touches (coat, hat, earrings, bag) to make it look totally chic!
Her hair alone (The color! The curl! The bangs!) is enough to make me adore Marielle Elizabeth (@marielle.elizabeth), a plus size Canadian writer and photographer whose TikToks showcase her being creative with her closet, and unflinchingly honest with her feelings. ♥
SOME OTHER RANDOM STUFF
I’m OBSESSED with this video!
As it hilariously points out, no matter what our body type, we ALL know exactly what we look like, and it’s nobody’s business to try and change that. Suggestions are NEVER. WELCOME. PERIODT.
Question: Do professionals who have to see our body pay attention to it?
I asked an esthetician, who does everything from facials to bikini waxes, what she notices about bodies when she’s providing a service. She said, “I’m not even paying attention. I’m just focused on what I’m doing. If someone’s skin is irritated, that’s what I’m thinking about. Other than that, I only notice body odor or smells. Then, it’s like - we need to talk! But I’m not paying attention at all to body shape or size.”
Oh, and another question for ya:
THIS WEEK’S LINK ROUNDUP
I so relate to this video of RuPaul on the Call Her Daddy podcast explaining he’s actually an introvert:
Stylist Brad Goreski’s Real Housewives TikToks are EVERYTHING! Check out his latest video, where he recreates a dramatic moment from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion. He always nails it - the mannerisms, hair, outfits…omg!
NOTHING will put a smile on your face like @vieler.photography - an Instragram account where photographer Christian Vieler takes snapshots of dogs catching treats, like the one below. COME ONNNN!
I LOVE Drew Barrymore, and have been to a taping of her show three times (including last week when, upon chatting with the audience after taping, she sent five groups of people out to dinner, on her)! My bf even got on her show once after Drew asked men in the audience for dating advice. It was the best day of his life! This article about Drew's relatable apartment makes me love her even more.
If you’ve been noticing the clunky shoes being worn by many of the contestants on Joey’s season of The Bachelor, you’re not alone.
Speaking of The Bachelor, guess which former Bachelor's daughter may compete on American Idol this season? (Hint: Def not the most popular one…. 😬)
And in even MORE Bachelor news, Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour, the new podcast co-hosted by
Caitlyn Jenner and Kris JennerCathy Swarts and Susan Noles of Golden Bachelor fame, launches March 28th!Oooh, I’m very intrigued by this upcoming comedy series for Apple TV+ starring Owen Wilson!
Bye for now! And remember:
As a Survival of the Thickest fan who just googled "will there be a season 2" last week, I can't tell you how I excited I am for more episodes!
And thank you for these fashion TikTok recommendations - I can't wait to dig in.
