I was BEYOND moved at the support I received for last week’s post detailing my experience with Ozempic. What has by far had the biggest effect on me are the things women have expressed about their own journeys with body image, either by sharing their stories, or by relating to mine.
I was introduced to
of who, without even realizing it, summed up my feelings in the most perfect way when she commented, “I think we’ve all heard enough about what a miracle drug Ozempic is, and it’s nice to hear that thinness isn’t always worth the consequences.” 🙌 of made a simple but powerful statement, making me wonder why I ever thought otherwise, when she said: “We all deserve to enjoy delicious food.” ❗❗Substack has introduced me to some other people who write (or have written) about body image:
- of Dacy is a stylist who takes a unique approach to working with her clients: She rejects fashion rules; prioritizes the comfort and wants of the client over what society sees as flattering; and discusses intuitive eating and mental health in order to help people uncover their authentic style.
- of I love Amanda’s no-nonsense writing style! In a recent post, she detailed her experience at a spa. When I got to the part about the too-small robe they gave her, I braced myself for what was to come, but was pleasantly surprised (enough to yell, “Yesss!” out loud) when I read THIS:
- The content here is so vulnerable. You don’t need to have been diagnosed with body dysmorphia to relate to this post. Although the experience we’re reading about is someone else’s, the feelings are universal; who hasn’t picked apart a photo of themselves, been disappointed by what they’ve seen in the mirror, etc.? Reading this Substack makes me feel less alone.
- of Katie Sturino - who I mentioned here - recently came out with a Substack. In reading about her favorite athleisure clothes, I loved the idea behind Superfit Hero - a brand specializing in sizes L-7X whose labels aren’t numerical, but are named after elements (air, earth, fire).
Speaking of body image, the video below of a performance from the Olivier Awards (aka the British Tonys) had me CHEERING, and it’s not because it’s from my favorite musical ever, Guys and Dolls🎲🎲 ! It’s because the main gal here (who’s also the show’s star) is a REGULAR SIZE! And PS…she KICKS ASS - her singing, her dancing - my God! As a former musical theater kid, seeing this gives me hope that we’ll finally start having normal-bodied representation in theater.
During my senior year of college, I took a poetry class where the assignment was to write about something/someone I loved. Everyone wrote these very deep and meaningful poems, and I came to class with this. I thought now would be an appropriate time to share... 😉
LOVE AFFAIR
You’re slender and sleek, and when you touch my lips,
I don’t care that your presents go right to my hips.
My friends didn’t get it. They called me a dork
When they learned of the affair that I had with my Fork.
Oh, Fork! You’re my savior, and you bring me food
No matter the time and no matter the mood.
You bring me spaghetti wrapped ‘round you so tight
‘Til I slurp it right off you with all of my might.
And when morningtime comes, and you carry my eggs,
You wear them like a skirt on all four of your legs.
Oh, it makes me laugh so that my belly just aches!
Oh, hey, can you bring me some Entenmann’s cakes?
You dove into a salad when I tried to get thinner,
And you’re always around when I want to have dinner.
Now, please don’t get jealous, dear Fork, of the Spoon,
Of when we, Ben, and Jerry walked under the moon.
I was just feeling angry and helpless that day.
(And he later ran off with the dish anyway.)
Just know that each time that our prongs and lips meet,
I can’t wait to bite off your delectable treat!
And my friends can all laugh. They can call me a dork.
I know they’re just jealous of me and my Fork.
FROM THE WEEK….📆
some fun pics 📸
How I spent my evening Sunday (and every evening since) after finishing Baby Reindeer:
There’s no better sound:
Found this photo of Larry David I hadn’t yet seen…in a sequined basketball uniform?! ✨

Vanity Fair popped up on my IG with a list (from last year??) of their favorite romcoms, and I wanna watch ‘em all - ones I’ve seen, ones I haven’t…let’s gooo! 💕
Love this story of Mariska Hargitay stopping mid-scene while shooting SVU to help a lost little girl (who thought she was a real police officer) look for her mom.
In honor of Emily Henry's anticipated newest read having come out yesterday, here’s a list of books written by today’s queen of the romcom novel! 📚
I can’t get over this website where you can get temporary tattoos of people’s faces!
Speaking of tats, when I was thinking of getting one (but I’m just too scared!), I went onto Inkbox.com and had a custom tattoo made of the design I wanted. Their tats last for two weeks and are a great test drive if you’re seriously considering one!

A CLASSIC GBBO moment! 🤣
Tiktok failed to load.
Enable 3rd party cookies or use another browserAnother classic video! Who doesn’t love the Thriller dance scene from 13 Going on 30?! Since it’s celebrating it’s 20th anniversary, it just may be time for a rewatch!
Instagram reminded me it was 30 years ago when this infamous Today Show clip aired of Katie Couric and Bryant Gumble confusedly asking what the internet is!
Oh my gosh thanks for the shout out! And yes Baby Reindeer has stayed with me!
I started Baby Reindeer this week (like the rest of the world, I guess?) and it's absolutely wild! I'm not done yet but I find myself thinking about it all the time - the way that it manages to be both darkly funny and genuinely so unsettling is such a delicate balance.
And I stumbled across that Vanity Fair list of the best rom-coms a few months ago and keep meaning to go back to it and fill in the gaps on the movies I haven't seen from it - so thank you for posting it and reminding me that I've got work to do!
